Essay on French Revolution: Was the Bloodshed Necessary?
Intro: The French Revolution is considered a major turning point in world history. Was violence necessary? Was the use of the guillotine justified? Was the French Revolution a success? Write a thesis statement (an argument)---”It was/was not necessary to use bloody violence to change France.
1. The Problem: 3 Estates divided the French into classes with different rights and representation. Poor Harvests. Government debt.
2 The actions of the King and Queen vs. the life of the people.
3 Storming of the Bastille, Actions: How and to what extent did people gained rights. National Assembly at Versailles. Tennis Court Oath and the Declaration of Rights of Man. The Declaration of Rights Women excluded from these rights.
4 March by Women to Versailles; The Guillotine for execution of the King and Queen
Resolution: the Reign of Terror, and Robespierre and Marat (see notes)
5 Conclusion: In the end, what improvements were made in the government and citizens’ rights? Did France become A Republic of Virtue? How?
